Use Caution this Fourth of July

A Dallas accident attorney may be the furthest thing from your mind when celebrating Independence Day this weekend. However, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), reports that July 4th is still one of the most dangerous days to be on the road.

According to the IIHS, more deadly car wrecks happened on July 4th than any other day of the year between 2000 and 2013. In 2014, Memorial Day took the unfortunate top spot for auto-accident fatalities. However, Independence Day is still one of the most dangerous days of the year to drive due to the combination of increased traffic and intoxicated drivers.

AAA predicts that almost 42 million Americans will travel more than 50 miles from home this July 4th, a 0.7% increase from last year. Since this year’s holiday falls on a weekend, those numbers are expected to be the highest since 2007.

If you plan on driving this Fourth of July, avoid a car, motorcycle or truck accident by following these classic, common-sense suggestions:

  • Never drink and drive
  • Never drive if you’re tired
  • Always avoid distractions
  • Always use caution when changing lanes
  • Always wear your seatbelt

Another great idea is to simply leave your vehicle at home this holiday weekend and catch a ride with a friend, or travel by public transportation or taxi.

Hopefully, your Fourth of July will be filled with nothing but good food and fun times.
