Texas wrong-way car accident ends with injuries and arrest

Accidents on the roadway can be caused by many things, but someone driving the wrong way in a one-way lane is a pretty sure-fire way to cause a crash — or chaos at the least.

In Rowlett, Texas, a driver on Highway 66 drove his pickup truck the wrong way for several miles before colliding with a car coming in the opposite direction. It happened in the early hours of Sunday morning. The driver of the pickup truck was alone. The other car contained two people, a driver and a passenger. The passenger was in the back seat at the time of the car accident.

All three, the driver of the pickup truck, and the two people in the car were transported to Baylor Regional Medical Center in Plano. The driver of the truck was released with minor injuries. The other two remain in the hospital. The passenger who was in the backseat is said to have critical, life-threatening injuries.

Per an investigator from Rowlett, the driver of the pickup truck was arrested. He was allegedly driving under the influence and charged with intoxication assault. He is to be held at the Dallas County jail.

The victims in the car, through apparently no fault of their own, are now suffering severe injuries. Their future may be uncertain, possibly including excessive medical bills, time away from work and numerous other expenses. Many people who find themselves in this situation don’t know where to begin.

An at-fault driver’s insurance coverage is usually minimal. It may cover the initial medical costs, but if injuries are severe, victims are often left with ongoing medical treatment — ongoing doctor visits, x-rays, MRI’s or even surgery — down the road. Who covers these costs? What if the victim is going to be out of work for a period of time or may never be able to return to their job again? Or any job? Seeking legal advice on how to go about obtaining a settlement from the responsible party, or parties, may be necessary.
