Driving drunk in Texas is a serious crime. A driver makes a deliberate choice to get behind the wheel of a car while he or she is under the influence of alcohol or drugs. That's not an accident. In spite of strict laws punishing driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, drunk driving — and drunk driving car accidents — continue to happen on the streets every day.
Texas police reported that an accident caused by an alleged drunk driver driving the wrong way on a local busy highway, injured eight people. Five people were transported to the hospital.
Police were alerted about a driver driving the wrong-way on the highway early one morning. When officers went to find the driver, they happened upon a serious accident. Out of the three cars involved in the crash, one was turned in the opposite direction on the shoulder of the highway. Police believed that car was driven by the wrong-way driver and they smelled alcohol at the scene.
One child was hurt in the grisly crash and taken to a local children's hospital. Three adults were also taken to the hospital. Three other individuals were treated at the scene and released.
Two of the people that went to the hospital were in serious condition, and the additional six people which were taken to the hospital had non-serious injuries.
The alleged drunk driver, a woman, was arrested and also taken to the hopsital. This driver, who operated her car under the influence of alcohol, exhibited a reckless disregard for the safety of others.
People who are injured by intoxicated drivers in Texas, or the families of those who are killed in these types of accidents, have the right to seek compensation for their losses.
