One woman, twin brothers killed in crash

Three people, including twin brothers, died in a Monday morning single-vehicle crash in Arlington. An Arlington police officer discovered the car accident along Southeast Green Oaks Boulevard during a routine patrol at about 3 a.m.

The officer saw an unusual glimmer of light along the road in front of Ferguson Junior High School. A Honda Accord had struck a tree and the car was severed in half. One of the 21-year-old twins was the driver of the Honda. The other was riding next to his brother in the front seat. The brothers died at the scene of the accident. Three back seat passengers, a 19-year-old Arlington woman and two men, were transported by ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. The female accident victim was pronounced dead at the hospital. The injuries and medical conditions of the surviving passengers were not reported.

Arlington police stated that a bottle of alcohol was found at the crash site. Authorities believe alcohol may have contributed to the crash and think the Honda was speeding when the driver lost control.

Investigators learned the twins had been drinking beer before the crash at a friend’s house, about three miles from their Brooklawn Drive home. The twins’ friend claimed his guests drank no more “than they could handle” and “seemed fine to drive.” The gathering of friends reportedly broke up about an hour before the patrolman came across the fatal accident in front of the junior high school.

Thirty-two people have died in Arlington traffic accidents in 2011, one dozen more than were reported in the city in all of 2010.
